Obituary of Randal Turner

Randal (Randy) Turner, 85, of Roanoke, VA passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2011. He suffered for several years from Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Fincastle, VA on May 23, 1925. He was one of 10 children of Jacob Francis and Beulah Stafford Turner. He grew up in Botetourt and Roanoke Counties and attended William Fleming High School. Randal was a WW II veteran, serving in the European theater of action, with the 3110 Signal Service Battalion of the Third Army. He attended Virginia Southern Business School, majoring in business administration. He retired from Chesapeake Corp, after 29 years. Randal was a charter member and officer of Northview United Methodist Church. He was Scout Master of troop 209 for eight years. He was a member of the Administrative Management Society for 28 years, serving as president in 1972 and again in 1982. After he retired, Randal then became a member of Green Memorial Methodist Church. He enjoyed his family, friends, traveling and working in his yard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Frank, Bevis "Fred", Rodney, Col. Trevor Turner, Thurman Turner and infant grandson. He is survived by his wife, Louise Turner, daughter, Stephanie Murphey (Bill), grandchildren, Ryan Murphey (Melody), Louanne Sigler (Mike) and a great grandson Colin Sigler, brother, Jack Turner (Marilyn), sisters, Rosalie Ralph (Bill) and Joan Sale; (2) brothers-in-laws, (6) sister-in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, February 7, 2011, at Greene Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gary Robbins officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service. A reception in the Welcome Center at the church will immediately follow the service.
