Obituary of Carrie Martin

Carrie F. Brogan Martin, 86, of Roanoke, left to go home to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 23, 2011 with her family by her side. She was born in Franklin County, Va. on March 30, 1924 to the late George and Girlie Brogan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard (Buster) Martin, and brothers, Elbert and Orville Brogan. Surviving are her daughter, Judy Bailey and husband Phil of Roanoke; son, Ron Martin and wife Rita of Vinton; sister, Helen Broyles and husband Jim of Roanoke; brother, Denver Brogan of Vinton; and a special sister-in-law, Janie Brogan of Winston-Salem, N.C. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren, Lori Caldwell (Mike); Greg Martin (Sheri); Jason Shelton (April), and great grandchildren, Holly Shelton, Steven Caldwell, Nate Martin and Drew Martin and a number of loving nieces and nephews. Our Mother was a very loving, kind person and she was given back that same love by all who knew her. Mom managed to keep her sweet disposition and her wonderful smile even as she struggled with the final stages of Alzheimers disease. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2011 in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton by the Rev. Ron Young. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
