Howard Kenneth Dickson, Sr. 89, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord Sunday, January 16, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jeane Hampton Dickson on January 6, 2011. Mr. Dickson served in the U S Navy during World War II. He retired as an engineer with the Department of the Army. Howard was a lover of all types of music and played trumpet in his own band for a number of years. He loved life and people and never met a stranger. Surviving are his son, Howard Kenneth Dickson, Jr. and wife Karen of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Vickie D. Hoffler and husband Charles of Vinton; grandchildren, Adam, Andrew and Aaron Dickson; Tiffany Faw and husband Scott, Christi Lyons and husband Joey; Tobi Helton and husband Chris; great grandchildren, Brock, Mitch, and Amelia Faw, Eliana Lyons, Brian, Michael, and Matthew Helton; sister, Margaret Dunn and husband Vonnie. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Charles Hoffler and the Rev. Joey Lyons. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at Simpson Funeral Home. 540-366-0707
