Obituary of Mildred Sheehan

Please share a memory of Mildred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mildred Griffith Sheehan, 89, of Roanoke was carried swiftly by angels to Heaven on Wednesday, November 24, 2010. There she will join her husband Gerald Edward Sheehan, five sisters and four brothers. During World War II, Mildred contributed to the war effort by sewing the seats in the aircraft known as the Helldivers and Corsairs. The notes she let inside the seats for pilots and crew served as an inspiration to many. After the war she served as a founding member of the United Auto Workers retiring from the Chrysler Corporation. She was a devout Catholic her entire life. After the death of her brothers and sister she played the role of wise counselor for the family. She was a beautiful person who was loved by all who knew her. She will be sadly missed. Surviving are her daughter, LeeAnn Cormany; son, Gerald Edward Sheehan, Jr.; grandson, Shawn Thomas Koths; and a sister, Wilma McIntosh. A funeral mass will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, November 29, 2010 at St. Andrews Catholic Church by Monsignor Thomas C. Miller. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's Diocesan Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road Roanoke, Virginia 24019.
