Marguerite J. (Margie) McNeil died Friday, October 29, 2010, in Salem. A native of Lexington, VA., Margie was born January 23, 1930, the daughter of Judge Daniel Walter McNeil, Sr. and Emma Lackey McNeil. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and a sister. There are no immediate family survivors. Margie began her education in the Lexington school of Miss Edmonia Smith, continued in the public school system, graduated from Mary Washington College, and from the University of Virginia with a Masters in Education. She taught for 33 years in public schools in Fairfax, Buena Vista, and Lexington. She was a member of Lexington Presbyterian Church, United Daughters of the Confederacy, American Mensa, the 1842 Society of Roanoke College, and the Cornerstone Society of the University of Virginia. In former years Margie traveled extensively in both the United States and overseas. Friends will remember her as a true southern gentlewoman with a prodigious memory and an avid interest in UVA sports! A graveside service will be held at 11:00am, on Friday, November 12, 2010, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery, Lexington, VA., with the Rev. William Klein officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rockbridge Area Hospice or the Lexington Lifesaving Crew. Arrangements handled by Simpson Funeral Home and Crematory, Roanoke, VA., 540-366-0707.
