Ray Moyer, 68, of Salem, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 13, 2010. He was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Song Leader for many years at Roanoke Avenue Baptist Church. Ray served with the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Cherryl Stevens Moyer; children, Wendy M. Williams and husband, Terrell, of St. Petersburg, Florida, Carman M. Wymer, of Scott Depot, West Virginia, Angela M. Wood and husband, Bill of Richmond, Ramie F. Moyer, Jamie M. Arnett and husband, Jon, and Steven C. Moyer, all of Salem; eight grandchildren; and sister Ann Baker, of Mt. Pilot, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Roanoke Avenue Baptist Church, 2202 Roanoke Ave., SW, Roanoke, Virginia, 24015. Funeral Services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2010, at Roanoke Avenue Baptist Church by Rev. Curtis Nester. Interment will follow in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2010, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, 540-366-0707.
