Wilma Doris Murphy Powers, 76, of Roanoke, Virginia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 24, 2010. Mrs. Powers was born on February 14, 1934, in Richmond, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, the Rev. Raymond Bentley Powers. She was a graduate of Marion College, (now Indiana Wesleyan University), and a teacher in the Roanoke City Schools from 1971 to 1989. In 1994 she was commissioned as a special worker in the Wesleyan Church. At the time of her death she was serving as secretary at Penn Forest Wesleyan Church. As a Pastor's wife she served the local church in many capacities, including, church pianist, Bible Prophecy teacher, and a mentor to many. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all. Surviving are her sons, Randall Powers and wife, Rhonda, of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Loren Powers, and wife, Sue, of Switzerland; grandchildren, Jake, Ben, Ruben, Niel, and Julie; sisters Janice Carmack and Edna June Amburgey; and brother, Bob Murphy. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Penn Forest Wesleyan Church, 3735 Chaparral Drive, Roanoke, Virginia 24018. Funeral services will be conducted 10 AM on Thursday, August 26, 2010, at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church, 402 Hershberger Road, Roanoke by the Rev. Myron Atkinson. Internment will follow in Fair View Cemetery. The Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM and then 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, 540-366-0707.
