Obituary of Benjamin Ramsey

Benjamin Armistead Ramsey of The Oaks at Richfield Retirement Community Salem, Virginia passed away Monday, August 23, 2010.Bennie was the seventh and last surviving of thirteen children born to William Thomas Ramsey and Effie Love Shelton on March 25, 1915 in Gretna, Virginia. He retired from The Mead Corporation in 1975 after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Fort Hill Methodist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia for 75 years. Surviving are his beloved wife of 51 years, Pearl Wilkerson Ramsey; a devoted son K. Wayne Ramsey and wife Jane; two step daughters Margo S. Allen, Judy S. Marshall and husband Wayne; six grandchildren Blair Ramsey Price and husband Adam, Brook Ramsey Johnston and husband Tate, Jeffery B. Allen, Joey D. Allen and wife Katherine, Angela A. Hendricks, Laura R. Marshall; 10 great grandchildren Hannah and Bennett Dorton, Asher and Reuel Johnston, Anna Allen, Suzanne and Samantha Allen, Taylor and Autumn Hendricks, Derek Parker; and a dear friend Shearer Ramsey. This is an excerpt from Memoirs of Armistead Fuller Ramsey, Benjamin's great grandfather. I have not mentioned the difficulties which I have met and have had to face and the trouble and sorrows which I have had to endure and the burdens which I have to bear; so that you might think my life has been a sad one or that you might think that I am despondent or blue, for such is not the case. I fully realize the fact that there have been more bright days in my life than dark ones and more days of joy than sorrow. So, I accept these things as they come to me as the natural consequences of the ordinary life, believing that "All things work together for good to them that love God." Romans 8:28 A graveside service will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, August 27th at Fort Hill Memorial Park Lynchburg, Virginia with the Reverend Philip Waltz and Reverend Janet Hawkins officiating.
