Obituary of Wesley Dixon

Wesley C. Dixon, 85, of Roanoke died peacefully Monday, August 2, 2010 at his home. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Denney Dixon, father, Roy Dixon, step mother, Annette Dixon, and son Stuart P. Dixon. Mr. Dixon was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service at Iwo Jima. After World War II he graduated from the University of Connecticut with a major in Mathmatics. Upon graduation, he began what would be a long career in computing. He was the first to introduce non government main frame computers in Sweeden while working for RCA. He also introduced computers to Japan following the war. His last professional position was with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware from which he retired in 1986. Among his many hobbies were reading, sailing, wood working, sailing and working with stained glass. He was an avid traveler, enjoying many trips throughout the world. At the time of his death he was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and attended Trinity Eccumenical Parrish while living in the Smith Mountain Lake area. Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Sue Ellen Slater Dixon; children, Wesley Dixon and wife Janet of Baltimore; Arthur Dison and wife Marian of Portland, Oregon; Donald Dixon of Newark, Delaware; and Ellen Marie Carey and husband Michael of Clayton, Delaware; daughter-in-law, Sara Jane Elk of Philadelphia; step sons, Kenneth Dyer, Mark Dyer and wife Hope all of Roanoke; granddaughters, Sarah Caitlin and Elizabeth; grandsons, Matthew, Eric, Jess, and Roy; sisters, the Rev. Jeanne Stevens of Port Orange, Florida; Martha Fratto of Hartford, Conn.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Christ Lutheran Church by the Rev. David Skole and the Rev. Gary Scheidt. Interment with military honors will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
