Obituary of Ola Maddox

Please share a memory of Ola to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Today I gently kissed my mother on her forehead for the last time. Ola Catherine Maddox of Troutville passed away peacefully Friday October 31, 2014. Ola was born December 23, 1936 in Roanoke, Virginia to the late George Wesley and Anna Belle Lee Tolley. She is preceded in death by former husbands Charles William Hudson and Harry Dalhart Maddox. She is survived by her brother William Thomas Tolley of Vinton, VA, her 3 children Charles William Hudson of Greenville, SC, John Wesley Hudson of Roanoke, VA, and Rochelle Lee Hudson of Troutville, VA, 4 stepchildren, 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Ola graduated from William Fleming High School with the class of 1955. Ola started working for Kroger in 1964, and she was an integral part of the Kroger family, witnessing many changes in her nearly 4 decades of service. After working in various positions, she advanced to the position of Administrative Assistant to the Mid- Atlantic Marketing Areas Vice President. Ola was a member of the Moose Lodge since the 1970s and generously contributed her time to events and charity. Sweet and sincere, caring and smart, my mother was a beautiful person inside and out. As her daughter, I had the privilege of caring for her these last years as she courageously battled Alzheimer's. She remained sweet and caringand a bit feisty--until the very end. Ola will be missed by so many people. The family would like to thank Dr. Khawam, Nurse Michelle Stafford, Gentle Shepherd Hospice, Good Samaritan Hospice, and along with the staff of Bethel Ridge for their attentive care and love. I would also like to thank all of them for the patience and compassion that they showed me. The family will have a private service. In lieu of flowers, please search your heart and find some way you can help someone else. My mother would say "Look around, and there are so many ways one can help and make a difference." When you think of Ola Maddox, remember her beautiful smile, contagious laugh and how she loved to dance. Friends may send their condolences to the family by visiting www.simpsonfuneral.com.
