Obituary of Elva Foust

Elva Mitchell Foust of Roanoke born October 17, 1932 went to her heavenly home on Sunday, October 19, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Leonard Hughes Foust, her parents Katherine Hannah Mitchell and Elbert Lewis Mitchell, only sister Betty Mitchell Foster and a niece Mary Ruth Brewbaker. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Pam Foust and Sue Polek of Florida, Jan Beckner and husband Jay of Hardy, Va., and Ann Marie Parks and husband Eric of Roanoke; grandchildren, Natalie Wickstrum and husband Luke, Lauryl Hambrick and husband Perry, Jacob Beckner all of Franklin County; Raegan and Evan Parks of Roanoke; great grandchildren, Laila and Marlie Beard and Adler Wickstrum all of Franklin County; and step grandchildren, Izzy and Josie Wickstrum. She also leaves a special niece Kathy Huffman of Craig County and a special cousin Sandy Havlick of New Jersey as well as many other relatives and friends. Elva retired as Director of Nursing at Salem Health and Rehab in 1997. She loved her family and friends and loved being a nurse. Since retirement she has enjoyed traveling, and going on several bus trips and cruises. Elva moved to the Friendship Retirement Community in 2006. She loved living there and the many friendships made while there. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial gifts be made to either the American Cancer Society or Good Samaritan Hospice. A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Donna Hopkins Britt. The family will receive friends on Thursday one hour prior to the service.
