Obituary of Edna Hunley

Hunley Edna Barrett Edna Barrett Hunley, (affectionately known as Vicky to her friends) 88 of Roanoke passed away on Friday, October 3, 2014. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Furr and a brother Pat Barrett.She is survived by her siblings, Earlene Nash, Tom and Micky Barrett, and Nancy Tucker of North Carolina, and Joseph Barrett of Pennsylvania.In addition, those left to preserve her memory include her children, Tammy and Derrick Reed of Washington, R.C. (Buddy) & Mary Furr, Toni and Charles Pierce, and Becky and Jack Linkous of Virginia.Edna was a loving Granny of eleven grandchildren, and Great-Granny to nine. Vicky was passionate about gardening, and her homes were noted for beautifully maintained flower gardens. She truly enjoyed a home grown tomato, and the smell of roses and peonies. While she was a homemaker as her children grew up, she entered the workforce and as a EKG technician retired from Lewis Gale Hospital.She was an active member of Airlee Court Baptist Church in Roanoke.Those that knew her well will remember her for her ebullient stories and feisty spirit. A special thanks to the staff at Friendship Health and Rehab Center for their support. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Cree Road. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
