Michael L. Morgan, of Roanoke, went home to our Lord Monday, September 22, 2014. Mike was the son of Nuble and Virginia Morgan of Crewe. He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Terri Lynn. His is survived by his wife, Kathy; and daughters Stacey M. Smith (Timothy) and Lisa A. Morgan; as well as his sister, Janice A. Tomlinson (Marvin); and several nieces and nephews. Mike was a lifetime member of the Crewe Volunteer Fire Department and previously served on the town's council. He was an employee of Norfolk Southern for over 39 years, where he was known by many as "Iron" Mike. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, at Green Ridge Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Afterwards, the family will hold a short gathering with friends at Green Ridge Baptist's Fellowship Hall. Mike's family would like to thank their friends and church family for their support and prayers. In addition, a heartfelt thank you to Blue Ridge Cancer Care, Lewis Gale Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, please support Green Ridge Baptist Church, the American Cancer Society or Hollins Fire & Rescue #5.
