Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alice Jane McPeak Crotts, 86, of Roanoke went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 30, 2012 surrounded by her son and daughter. She was born February 6 1925 in Rising Sun, Maryland. She was one of seven children born to Arthur J. and Fleta McDaniel McPeak. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, and a brother, Bob who was killed during World War II; parents; a sister, Edith Alderson; a brother, Gene McPeak; and a brother Sonny. Surviving to cherish her memory are one son, Raymond Crotts, Jr. who was a loving caregiver for the past 12 years; one daughter, Linda Sue Pratt and husband Michael; two sisters, Virginia Hodges; Irene Pendleton and husband Allen. Also surviving are five sisters-in-law; Frances Brooks, Meritta Bryan, Evelyn Rakes, Ruby King, and Jeanie and Norma McPeak. Last but not least, she is survived by four grandchildren who were the light of her life; Don Charles and wife Suzanne; April Harrah and husband Chris; Tabitha Simmons and husband Ben; and Susan Charles. She leaves behind seven great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. Alice had a great love for learning. She attended Southview Elementary, Andrew Lewis High School and Brandon Secretarial School. Her favorite pass times were reading her Bible and reading and writing poetry. Her work history included entertaining World War II soldiers at the Y, Langley Field, Gordons and Toms Potato Chip Company, Adams Company and finally retirement from the Department of Social Services where she was a Medicaid Supervisor. Alice loved her church family. She attended Mason Cove Chapel and Air Lee Baptist in her younger years but spent most of her adult life as a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. A special thanks to all the nurses at Gentle Shepherd Hospice who lovingly guided us thru this process for the past four years. A graveside service will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2012 in Sherwood Memorial Park by Dr. John W. Furman. The graveside service will be followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
