Obituary of Jimmie McKinney

Jimmie David McKinney 79 of Roanoke went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on Tuesday August 12, 2014. He went to sleep alone in Roanoke and awoke in heaven reunited with Betty, his beloved wife of 52 years. Jimmie is survived by his son, David, and his wife Connie; his much loved grandchildren, Joshua and Anna; a brother, Lowell T. McKinney; brother-in-law and his wife, Douglas and Katherine Bowers. Along with his wife Betty, his parents, James and Lola McKinney, preceded Jimmie. Jimmie served proudly in the United States Army from 1953-1956. He spent his working years as a US Postal Service Letter Carrier and retired in 1999 with over 40 years of service. He always had great respect for both agencies. However, his favorite job was being "Grandpa"! Known for his kind smile, listening ear, helpful nature, and great sense of humor, Jimmie will be greatly missed. He served Jesus by helping anyone God lead across his path, especially friends, neighbors, and family. A funeral service celebrating Jimmie's life will be held 11:00am Friday August 15, 2014 in Simpson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 2:00pm in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, VA. with full military honors.
