Alfred "Laddie" Hughes, 91, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, August 10, 2014. Laddie was preceded in death by his parents James & Mary Hughes, and his wife of 54 years, Doris Scott Hughes. Laddie is survived by his children; Al Hughes and wife Darlene, and Carol Slate and husband Carl; grandchildren, Michele Vanover and husband David, Brian Hughes, Michael Hughes and wife Katherine, and Ashley Fers and husband Josh. Special thank you to Laddie's angels Jacqueline, Renee, Tammy, Gentle Shepard Hospice, and Dr. Robert Patten, Jr for allowing Laddie to stay comfortably in his home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made in Laddie's name to Westminster Presbyterian Church 2216 Peters Creek Road Roanoke Va. 24017 or to Douglas Church c/o Joyce Slayton 95 Well Drilling Dr. Farmville, Va. 23901. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Simpson Funeral Home with Pastor Kyle Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 12, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home. (540) 366-0707.
