Obituary of Viola Phlegar

Viola Spangler Phlegar, 84, of Salem went home to be with the Lord Saturday, August 2, 2014. There she was reunited with her beloved husband Fred Brooks Phlegar. In addition to her husband she was preceded by her parents, Lela Elizabeth Spangler, and Hubert Worth Spangler, brothers David M., Ernest W. and Ronald J. Spangler, and sister-in-law Evelyn H. Spangler. Viola was a longtime member and prayer warrior at New Life Christian Ministries. She was known and appreciated by many for the gift of her delicious fried apple pies. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly P. and Thomas C. Adams; grandson, Benjamin T. Adams and wife Lindsey; great grandson, Lyric Brayden Adams; sister, Ayrie M. Glover; sister-in-law, Connie P. Henson; brother-in-law, Herman Phlegar, Jr. and wife Dot; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff on 6-E at Lewis Gale Hospital, and the staff at the Ridgecrest Apartments at Richfield Living for their many acts of love and compassion. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Piedmont Camp Meeting Association C/O Pastor Tony Atkinson New Life Christian Ministries 5745 Airport Road Roanoke, Va. 24019. Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Walter L. Wood and the Rev. Tim Mackenzie. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Monday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
