Gilbert Douglas (Doug) Warner passed away on Thursday July 31, 2014 at his home in Roanoke, VA. He was born on June 23, 1952 in Welch, WV to the late James Warner and Faye Felts of Princeton, WV. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents who raised him, Fred and Josie Bowman of Martinsville, VA. Doug was a longtime resident of Martinsville, VA who was a 1970 graduate of Drewry Mason High School and also a graduate of Patrick Henry Community College. He was a beloved and well known saxophone player and musician who played with a variety bands and musicians throughout the area. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife Donna Peery Warner of Emmonak, AK; daughter Alison Warner Calfee and husband Jay of Martinsville, VA; brother, Oscar Bowman of Richmond, VA; sisters, JoAnne Stafford of Concord, NC, Susan Felts of King, NC, Audrey Felts Whitaker and Nicole Edwards both of Princeton, WV; two granchildren, Hayden and Parker Calfee of Martinsville, VA; and several nephews and great nephews. A memorial service will be held on Sunday August 10, 2014 at 1:30pm in the Parish House at Christ Episcopal Church, 311 East Church St, Martinsville, VA with a reception of friends and family to follow at 37 East, 37 East Main St, Martinsville, VA from 2-5pm. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the American Cancer Society at www.americancancersociety.org. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory in Roanoke, VA.
