Melvin W. Waldron, 92, of Roanoke passed away Monday, July 21, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Elthel Boyd Waldron, parents, John and Ernie Waldron, sisters Hessie Myers, and Vera Driskill, and a brother Herman Waldron. Mr Waldron was an Army veteran of World War II and was employed by the American Viscose, Associated Transport and Jones Motor Frieght. Surviving are his son, Glenn Waldron and wife Lori; daughter, Brenda Austin; grandsons, Ricky Reese and Brian Austin; granddaughters, Katelin and Lauren Waldron; great grandson, Jason Reese; brother, Ralph Waldron; sisters, Hazel Harth and Alberta Agnew; a number of nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Muffin. A special thanks to Cindy Umberger (his nurse at the V A Medical Center) and to Kathy and Brian with Good Samaritan Hospice for their many acts of kindness and care. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2014 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
