Donald (Don) Young, Sr., 83, of Roanoke, born August 3, 1930, in Roanoke, Virginia went to be with his final peace, after a long battle with cancer. Don had a good and rich life dedicated to God, his family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Connie "Pat" Young, parents Roy and Charlotte Young, sister Connie Wertz, brother Dalton Young, and son Donald Young Jr. Don leaves behind his daughter Donna "Cookie" Bandy and husband Tom; grandchildren Patricia Patton and husband Damon, Lena Bandy and boyfriend Chris Mitchell, Tim Bandy, and Melanie Link and husband Steve; great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Caleb, Isabella, and Matthew Patton, Chaelyn Bandy, and Conner Link; and Robin and Brandelin Young; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Don's name to the Higgenbotham Missionaries, P.O Box 606 Fort Towson, OK 74735. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 18, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Roanoke Valley Baptist Temple, 2611 10th Street NW, Roanoke Va., with Rev. Terry Mabry and Rev. Jack Lawson officiating.
