Obituary of Roland Hahn

Please share a memory of Roland to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Roland J. Hahn died on Saturday, June 22, 2014 in Roanoke, Virginia. Roland Hahn was born June 6, 1923, in St. Louis, Missouri to William and Elva Hahn. He had two siblings Warren and Arlene who predeceased him. Roland was a veteran, who married Norma Holt in 1950, and together they raised five children. He had a productive career at IBM as an electrical engineer from 1950 to 1987. A highlight of his career was an invention he designed that earned him the President's Award. He eagerly took early retirement and enjoyed years of active retirement in Leesburg, Florida. Roland and Norma moved to Vermont to live with their daughter Susan (Hahn) Miyamoto. They then moved to a nursing home in Roanoke, near their son Tim Hahn and his wife Monica, who gave lots of care and support to his parents. Roland Hahn was devoted to his family: his wife, his five children, his grandchildren and great grandchildren and to his faith. Family and faith were the cornerstones of his life. As he looked forward to retirement, so he also looked forward to heaven and being with his wife Norma who predeceased him. He is survived by his four sons whom he proudly called the Hahn Boys: Terry Hahn, Michael Hahn, Marty Hahn, and Tim Hahn, and by his daughter Susan (Hahn) Miyamoto. He is also survived by his daughter-in-laws (Jeanne Hahn, Ellen Hahn, Lynn Hahn, and Monica Hahn), and by his fourteen grandchildren and his nine great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Roanoke, VA on June 28, at 10:00 am.
