Roy Surface Whitescarver, 91, of Roanoke, went home to the Lord on Friday, June 20, 2014. He was born July 25, 1922, to Kenneth Tyree Whitescarver, Sr. and Eulalia Elizabeth Surface Whitescarver in the family home on Broad Street, Salem, Virginia. Roy graduated from Virginia Tech with a business degree and from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, becoming a Baptist Minister for many years along the Northern Neck of coastal Virginia, at Woodlawn Baptist Church near Alexandria, and in the Roanoke area. Later, he was an insurance executive with the Church Insurance Company. During retirement, he was an associate chaplain at Lewis Gale Hospital for many years. Roy loved history, antique cars, motorcycles, and learned how to fly glider planes. He loved turning strangers into friends. Roy is survived by his former wife Helen Tucker and their two sons, David and Richard, and David's wife Anne Lise. Also living are first cousin James Robert Goodwin II and wife Gladys, and nephews Hunt and Will Whitescarver and their families. Roy was preceded in death by his father, mother, and by Brother Kenneth and his wife Alice Clare. His Favorite epitaph: Let There Be No Weeping At My Grave/ Let There Be No Wearing Of The Black/ I Would Rather That Your Tears You Save/ For Some Soul With "Lost" Upon Its Plaque
