Loyd W. Johnson, 84, of Roanoke peacefully went home to be with the Lord Thursday, June 19, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Dent Johnson, an infant twin son, parents, Oma and Bertha Johnson, brothers, Oma B. Johnson, Jr. and Bobby Johnson, and a sister Nancy Dillon. Mr. Johnson served as a tank operator in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Preston Oaks Baptist Church and was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was known to many as a hardworking individual who never met a stranger. Surviving are his daughters, Beverly Johnson of Roanoke; Elizabeth Rader and husband Sam, of New Castle; grandchildren, Cody, Ashley, and Tori Rader; brothers, Wayne Johnson of Moneta; Travis Johnson of Gladys; sisters, Sylvia Cox of Moneta; Vernelle Tuck of Huddleston; and Nadine Hodges of Roanoke; sister-in-law Diane Johnson of Bedford; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend and caregiver, Ron Leftwich. The family offers their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at the Hermitage in Roanoke for their exceptional care and hospitality during a most difficult time. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimers Association. Funeral services will be conducted Noon Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by Pastor Don Brown. A graveside service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Patmos United Methodist Church Cemetery Huddleston, Va. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral.
