Obituary of Daniel Charles Freeland
Daniel C. Freeland, 85, of Christiansburg, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Spring Oak of Christiansburg. Born in Michigan City, Indiana, Daniel spent his early years in Rolling Prairie, Indiana and would occasionally work at a nearby farm. He had an interest in electronics at an early age and built a short-wave radio. He served in the Navy for nine years as a music instructor, during which time he met and married his wife, Diana. After military service, Daniel worked for AT&T, but his life took a new direction when he committed himself to Jesus Christ. He pursued his faith by studying at Washington Bible College, graduating in 1978, after which he served in various churches, including one in Spain. Daniel had diverse interests, including Bible study and teaching, music, photography, fishing, and technology.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Elma Freeland, and his sister, Janice.
Surviving family includes his wife of 63 years, Diana Marriott Freeland, as well as two children and their spouses, Elaine Seiler (John), and Andrew Freeland (Michelle). He is further survived by nine grandchildren – Elizabeth Meltzer (Matthew), Sarah Morris (Nick), Matthew Seiler (Judith), Rebekah Seiler (Matt), Jordan Seiler, Serena Bowen (Justin), John Freeland, Grace Freeland, Karalyn Freeland, and one great-grandchild – Mabeline Morris.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, 11 a.m. at Simpson Funeral Home, located at 5160 Peters Creek Road Roanoke, VA 24019.
