Obituary of William Marcus Kendrick

William Marcus Kendrick, 88, passed away in his sleep on February 19, 2024. William was born to John and Mary Kendrick on December 26, 1935 in Gaston County, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Ginny Kendrick. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Kendrick Simmons of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; granddaughter, Meredith Petty of Harpers Ferry, Maryland; son, Marcus Thomas Kendrick of Roanoke, VA; grandson, Zachary Marcus Kendrick of Roanoke, VA; and stepson, Mitchell Bratton of Durham, NC and his daughter, Randi Bratton of Richmond, VA.

William “Bill” was a dedicated employee of The Kroger Company for 48 years. After retirement, he consulted for Advance Auto Parts and worked for Berglund Auto Sales until age 82.

Bill got great enjoyment from all the vehicles he had over the years. At age 40, he raced 4-wheel Jeeps with great success and was sponsored by STP and Coors Brewing Company. Soon after his Jeep days, he turned his interest to Corvettes of which he had several. He loved being in the “Star City Corvette Club.” He worked closely with Toys for Tots to secure bicycles for underprivileged children.

The family will have a Memorial Service on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019.
