Betty Wells Mayes, 78, widow of Hanley R. Mayes, entered into rest to be with her adored Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. Betty was a daughter of the late William Isaac Wells and Ressie Lacks Wells. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Earl Wells, Ethel Eubank, Martha Wells, Raymond Wells, Alma Smith, Mary Wells, Lewis “Chunkie” Wells, Charles “Charlie Boy” Wells, and twins, Floyd and Lloyd Wells.

Betty worked in the banking industry until her retirement in 1994. Betty was raised in Arcadia where she made her home with her first husband, William “Bill” Shanaberger and only child Beverly. The union of Bill and Betty in 1964 created her surviving relatives: daughter, Beverly Shanaberger Duvall (Tracey) of Buchanan; two granddaughters, LeAnna Welles and Savannah Rae Sharkey of Buchanan; two great-granddaughters, Aydia Dawn McMaster and Harper Shaye Giebner of Buchanan; several nieces and nephews; as well as her dear love, Fred Christie.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Foundation for the continued research of ALS or to Good Samaritan Hospice in memory of Betty Wells Mayes.

An intimate celebration of Betty’s life will be held for immediate family and very close friends only.
