Obituary of Shirley Childress Stallard

Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Shirley Stallard passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her first husband, Samuel Mayo Ogle, when her children were 7, 12, and 13 years old. Her strong and determined demeanor was a comfort to her young family. She was also preceded in death by her mother and father, Roy and Mamie Childress, and a son-in-law, Gary White.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 52 years Loyal Stallard; sister, Martha Vandergrift and husband Butch; five children: Sharon White, Stephen Ogle and wife Judith, Sarah Brooks and husband Bob, David Stallard and wife Christin, and Susan Carter and husband Reed. She was affectionately known as “Nana” to her grandchildren: Leeanna White, Kelly Lambert (Mike), Ashley White, Lindsey Donahue (Chad), Amy Fullen (Jamie), Riley Stallard, Aiden Stallard, Emma Carter, Sawyer Carter, and Sam Carter; and to her great-grandchildren: Lannie Merchant (Evan) Lydia McDaniel, Lowen Fullen, Samantha Fullen, and Dylan Hall; special nieces Rachel Bayne and Robin Sprinkel and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Shirley was baptized in 1954 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and faithfully supported the Troutville congregation. She was zealous in the ministry and loved sharing her hope from the Bible with others.  Throughout her life, she always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She always put her children first, ensuring they were loved, supported, cared for, and given every opportunity to thrive in life. Shirley is known for hosting huge family dinners and making everyone feel welcome. She will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
