Mary Sue Pate, 77, widow of James R. Pate, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 10, 2024. In addition to her husband of 45 years, she was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Lee and Mary Louise Hunt Ragsdale; a brother, Edward Lee Ragsdale; a sister, Bettie Ann Stevenson.

Mary’s life revolved around her family. She was a regular at sporting events, band concerts, school plays and anything else her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved in. She enjoyed participating in local horse shows, winning many awards for her abilities to show Western Saddlebreds. She loved spending time at the beach and also crocheting for friends and family.

She will be missed and remembered by her children, Benjamin Lee Edwards (Melody), Cynthia Dawn Edwards (Fred), Robert Dale Pate (Sally), Mandy Lynn Churchill (Matt); eight grandchildren, Justin, Vincent, Charlotte, Stevenson, Robert, Dale, William, Edward; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Don Ray Ragsdale (Karen); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Fellowship Community Church with Rev. Ken Nienke officiating. The family will receive guests following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Salvation Army – Turning Point of Roanoke.
