Obituary of Mae C. Lindamood

The Boston Red Sox lost one of their biggest fans when Mae C. (McCulley) Lindamood died on February 3, 2024 at the age of 95 years young. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 26, 1928, one of eight children of John and Doris (Clough) Cavanaugh.

During her childhood years, Mae and her family spent their summers in New Hampshire at a cottage on the water near what was then known as Pine Island Park. Though this was during the Great Depression, she cherished this time and her children and grandchildren loved hearing the stories of Mae’s youth. After moving to Roanoke, Virginia she was delighted to discover Carvins Cove and spent time boating, hiking, and enjoying picnics with loved ones.

Mae worked for many years as a Pharmacy Technician for various pharmacies throughout the Roanoke Valley, including Friendship Health and Rehab. She was an avid sports fan cheering for her beloved Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Notre Dame, and Virginia Tech. Mae also loved watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participate in sports.

Mae is survived by her children, Cheryl Daniel, Mike McCulley and wife Betty, Elaine Carroll and husband Jimmy, and Bridget Proutey; her grandchildren, Carolyn (Mark), Shawn (Eugene), Amber (Chris), Shane, Bridget, Jenny, Jason (Lauren), and Brandon (Kelsey); her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Makayla, Chase, Grace, Aly, Kieran, Sienna, Peyton, Jackson, Lucia, Jude, River, and Aspen Mae (due to make her entry into the world on April 1, 2024); her sister-in-law, Marilyn; many nieces and nephews; and (despite being a New York Yankee’s fan) her special friend and newly appointed family member, Diane.

She was predeceased by her spouse, Edward “Sonny” Lindamood; her children’s father, Raymond H. McCulley, Jr.; and her siblings, Doris, Ruth, Ed, Jack, Bill, Pat and Paul; and grandson, Grady McCulley.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and residents of The Oaks at Richfield Assisted Living in Salem, Virginia, where Mae resided for the past seven years of her life.

From her children: It was our mother’s wish that there be no service or visitation, and because we always obeyed our mother, we will honor her wish. We will continue to cherish her memory and the legacy that she has left behind. Go Red Sox!
