Obituary of William White Sr.

William “Bill” White Sr., 76, of Roanoke, passed away on January 14, 2024. Bill was born on January 23, 1947 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to the late, Rogers and Estelle Dimple White. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Brandon D. White; 2 sisters, Juanita and Constance; and 2 brothers, Roger and Carl White.

Bill owned and operated his own Certified Public Accounting Firm, William White Sr. CPA, for over 40 years.

He served on the Roanoke City School Board from 1984 to 1990, 6 years; Roanoke City Council from 1990 to 2002, 12 years; Carilion Hospital Board from 1998 to 2021, 23 years; as well as many others boards, councils, and committees, throughout the Roanoke Valley.

Bill was baptized at Saint Paul A.M.E. Church of Hot Springs, Arkansas.

He was a member of the Omega, Psi Phi Fraternity, The Altruist Club of Roanoke, Va., and many professional accounting organizations.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joyce Wright White; sons, Mark Brunson and William White Jr.; daughter, Erika White; grandson, Alex Simpson; sister, Rita White-Crump; as well as many other relatives and friends.

The family will have a Celebration of Life Service on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 1:00pm at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019, officiated by Rev. Donald A. Shovley Sr.. A Visitation will be held one hour prior from 12:00pm – 1:00pm.

The family would like to acknowledge Good Samaritan Hospice, Pastor Donald A. Shovely Sr., Mrs. Gloria Manns, The Gamma Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Faternity, Rev. Randolph W. Martin Sr. (Presiding Elder Retired), Simpson Funeral Home, and many others for their prayers, visits, cards, food, and other ways of comfort that were shown to us at this time.

The family encourages donations to be made to Good Samaritan Hospice in Bill's memory.
