Obituary of Donald Scott Mountcastle
Donald Mountcastle, 59, was born into this world on Dec 13, 1964 in Greenville, SC and gained his wings Jan 11, 2024 in Salem, VA.
During those years, he accomplished many things and brightened countless lives.. He earned plaque after plaque fishing. He loved having his son, Austin, come along with him on fishing trips, as well as his brother, Dave Martin. He became a general contractor- a true handy man- he could fix just about anything. He got married and created a family. He was a big collector-from antiques to crystals-you name it. He enjoyed going to antique stores and concerts with his daughter, Kayla. He had an eye for unique pieces. He had a love for music and taught himself to play multiple instruments- mainly focusing on guitar and bongos. Staying up all hours of the night at times just jamming. Music kept him going, always. He truly appreciated any form of art and was quite the artist himself. He loved riding motorcycles. Him and some buddies would go on rides together often. He always said he never felt as free as he did as when he was on his Harley. If you knew him, you knew how much of a jokester he could be. He'd have people laughing til they were red in the face, including his own. He was a huge animal lover and survives him is his loving companion, his dog, Hank.
Donald would do and give absolutely anything for anyone-despite the circumstance. His heart was made of pure gold.
Survives him is his daughter, Kayla, son, Austin, His Wife, Tina, His mother, Susan and his brother, Dave Martin. Proceeded in death is his Father, Donald, and brother, David. Along with many fur babies that he adored over his lifetime.
Services will be held Monday, January 15, 2024 at 11 a.m. at West Side Church of Christ 1705 Starview Drive Salem, Virginia 24153.

Dave Martin
Since I met Scott we became friends immediately. We worked together and liked all the same things we spent many days fishing hunting and being outdoors. He knew how to take in the simple pleasures that nature offers. He was good to everyone that met. He would even go as far to cook for some of the elder people we worked for building or doing repairs to their homes. That quality about him was special. He would always go out of his way to help someone that needed it Because he wanted to make people happy. I really enjoyed working with him years ago because of this. We both enjoyed working together and making people smile by making their life easier or better in some way. We stayed close even after moving on to different jobs because of the brotherhood we shared we became family. Now that he has left us , I´m going to really miss him. He has had some time now that medical issues caused a lot of pain for him but that will be eased for him now. It was hard to see my brother in so much pain recently. I´m going to miss you dearly. Hopefully we will meet up again one day and cast a line and look back on the times we had and smile. Love you brother.

I don’t even know where to start. I could write a whole novel about how incredible of a person you were. I could talk about you for hours straight, even.
I want to spread your charm to others who never got the chance to meet you, and to remind those who did, to keep that part of you with them forever. i’m so grateful to have been raised by someone like you and mom. I see so much of myself in you every day, dad. you’ve been one of my biggest inspirations and motivators my whole life. despite all the arguments we may have had over the years, i hope you know i never held any anger or grudge toward you, ever. i’m thankful to know the last we heard of each others voices was an, “I love you and sweet dreams.” you were always so proud of me; even if it was the smallest detail. any worry or stress i had, you made it disappear. i’m going to miss going to antique stores and goodwills with you. i’m so glad we got to go to concerts together and share our love for music even more than we did in general. i’ve had many people tell me over the years that they want to be just like you in life and have been moved by your generosity, humor, and the genuine love you spread to those around you. anyone could lean on you for anything and you’d help any way you knew how. thank you for always doing your best and keeping me safe. i can never thank you enough, daddy-o.
you’ll always be my cool daddy-o rocking on the patio, as you’d say.
and i promise to keep your jam seshes going for you. although i’m impatient as ever, as you knew, i will learn to play guitar for you.
i love you, always. until we meet again, rocket man!
