Obituary of Ellen C. Anderson

After a long battle with cancer and a stroke, Ellen C. Anderson, 86, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 21^st, 2023.  She is survived by her husband of 65 years, along with daughters Paula and Cindy Anderson, two grandchildren Nicholas West and David West, one sister, Carol Lipps of Jefferson, OH., and one brother Tom Sutherland of Jefferson, OH., along with many nieces and nephews.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Bertron and Louella Southerland, and sisters, Mary Joan Southerland Moorefield, Dulcia Corenia Southerland Brummitt, Mildred Leota Southerland Hall, and Joyce Fern Southerland and grandchildren Jonathan West and Sarah West.

After marrying her husband (Dennis R. Anderson) in Washington, DC, they moved to Austin, Mn. where she was church secretary at Grace Baptist Church, taught the teens and worked with the bus ministry.   After moving back to Virginia in 1976, she worked for Dale Carnegie and later as Administrative Assistant to the C.E.O. at Catawba Hospital where she also established the Hospital Medical Library with the Medical Director.  She retired from the hospital in 1995.  She loved flowers and gardening and helped Denny with their angus cattle in Catawba.   

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2023 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road.  Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home.
