Obituary of Thelma Hall Hayes

Thelma Hall Hayes, 95, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 16, 2023.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert B., and Lucy L. (Holley) Hall. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Earl G, Hayes, Jr.; sons, Ronald Earl, and Jackie Wayne Hayes; daughter, Patricia Ann Flora; five siblings, Katie Glassford, Charlie B. Hall, Hubert L. Hall, Betty Lou Barnes, and Nellie Mildred McLaren.

Mrs. Hayes attended New Grace Baptist Church and retired from K & W Cafeteria after more than 25 years of service.  She enjoyed being a member of her church’s choir, spending time with family and trips to the beach.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Gerald Michael Hayes (Cheryl) of Va. Beach, daughter in laws Brenda Hayes of Vinton and Judy Hayes of Roanoke and son in law Bill Flora of Roanoke; grandchildren, Melody Flora Smither (Eric) of Mechanicsville, Dennis Hayes (Christy) of Roanoke, Katrina Reitzel  of Va. Beach, Jeremy Hayes (Jessica) of Vinton, Elijah Dawson of Lynchburg, Joey Hayes (Jenny) of Austin, William Hayes (Brittney) of Blue Ridge, and Melissa Smith (Patrick) of Chesapeake; great grandchildren, Jacob Smither, Naythan, Kalee, Cooper, Oliver, Lily and Realynn Hayes and Michael Smith; brother, Johnny Hall; and special family members Esther Flora Howery of Roanoke, J.W., Meagan, Bryson and Brittyn Howery all of Blue Ridge.

The family would like to thank the staff at Friendship North and Good Samaritan Hospice for the special care.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 20, 2023 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by Pastor Elmer Clemmons.  Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Good Samaritan Hospice.
