Obituary of Kurt Paul Kipley, Sr.

Kurt P. Kipley Sr. passed away September 10, 2023 at age 65 after long battle with complications from pancreas and kidney transplant in 2022.  He was born on September 19, 1957 in Newark, Ohio.  The family moved to Illinois then to Roanoke, VA in the early 70’s.  Kurt graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1975 and Kurt also attended VA Western Community College.   Kurt was a lifelong Chicago Bears fan, Chicago Cubs and Chicago Blackhawks fan.    Kurt spent most of his career as a Roanoke County Firefighter and EMS and retired in 2014.  Kurt was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine Ferrell Kipley, his father Robert Author Kipley and his brother David Kipley.  Kurt is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Michele Kipley.    Kurt is also survived by his three children- Paul Kipley Jr., John Kipley, Laura Foose (Christopher), and stepdaughter Alexis Bennett (Jed) and his grandchildren Rayna, Bradley, Cole, Gavin, Colton, Jovi, Lennox, and Julia.    Kurt loved woodworking, playing the guitar and mandolin.  There wasn’t a song from the 70’s that Kurt didn’t know the artist and lyrics.   Kurt was very attached to his two fur babies- Thumper and Sugar.  Kurt loved to make everyone laugh, especially his wife. 

Services will be held Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home Electric Road Chapel (3912 Electric Road Roanoke, Virginia 24018). Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home Electric Road Chapel. (540)632-4200.
