Obituary of Douglas Stuart Padgett, Sr.

Douglas S. Padgett, Sr, 70, of Moneta went home to be with the Lord Thursday, September 7, 2023.  He was preceded by his parents, Lloyd and Viola Falls Padgett; and a brother, Dana Padgett.

Mr. Padgett was a graduate of William Fleming High School.  Following graduation he enlisted and proudly served his country in the United States Navy.  He served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged as a Boiler Technician 2nd class Petty Officer.  Douglas was an avid outdoorsman with a special love of hunting.  His favorite time of year was turkey hunting season.  He loved horses, raising chickens, and spending time on his farm.  He retired as a parts techician in the Fleet Management Department of the City of Roanoke.

Surviving is his wife of 44 years, Wanda Padgett; daughter, Jessica Padgett Preston; son, Douglas S. Padgett, Jr. (Cherokee); grandchildren, Nathan and Elena Preston; and Evangeline "Evan" and Jebediah "Jeb" Padgett; brothers, L. Richard Padgett, Jr. (Debbie), and Dirk Padgett; sister, Tamara Padgett; and numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road.  Interment will follow in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home.  540-366-0707
