Echoing Anne’s appreciation from our family, I also often think of the many times upon visiting Roanoke, when I would join my Dad in his religiously attended Sunday School at what he called the “old men’s Bible class.” There Hank taught one of the most remarkably diverse small groups I’ve seen. Hank led great, enlightening discussions with people of totally opposite political viewpoints, but was always tremendously respectful and attentive to hearing and learning from others’ perspectives, especially those different from our own. Hank’s model of respectful caring for all people is indelibly remembered as rising above lesser differences to appreciate our shared humanity. …what a great “lesson” for us all!
