Kelly was a friend and classmate .
Memories of simpler days flood my mind as if moments spent with Kelly were frozen in time.
I can vividly see that house on Clubhouse Drive and can almost hear Cindy ( Kelly’s mom) laughing and talking with her exuberant personality as she and my mom talked all things “adult “ in that basement salon on Mom’s appointment days .
I would hang out with Kelly upstairs as we ate snacks , did homework and talked all things “teenager”.
Although she has left her earthly home , 0h what a glorious forever home she occupies with all that she loved most who left before her.
We have hope and anticipation for the day we will be reunited with our friend . Until then, memories of her will sustain us. I pray for peace and comfort for Caroline and family.

I was very saddened to hear of Kelly’s passing. I did not know her for very long but what I did get to know was amazing. She was a huge animal lover and advocate. Her smile and laugh were contagious. She will be very missed, I am encouraged by the thought that she is home with our Savior and I will see her again.

As 2023 draws to a close, it will be the year I remember that we lost a beautiful woman, a friend, my best friend since age 6 at Roanoke Valley Christian School. Meeting Kel was undoubtedly a Godsend for both me and my immediate family way back in about 1974. Kelly so boldly introduced herself to timid first grade me, announced we would be friends, and led me further into the classroom and indeed, life together as we grew up and aged! It’s unbelievable to me still that she is gone from this earthly realm. So quickly here, then not here. I miss her very, very much.
Kelly Elizabeth introduced me to another life-long “friend”, Smith Mountain Lake. Camping with her, Cindy and Tommy was a highlight of my youth. Kel made everything seem… magical. Better than it even was. More adventurous and mysterious! Kel’s imagination and ability to make the simple things feel Hollywood-fabulous is something I hope to emulate from her way of living, along with her love of dogs!
I cannot drive down the road from my present home, literally, without looking left and seeing Kelly’s “home-road” here at Smith Mountain Lake. It was a dream come true for her sweet momma Cindy and daddy Tommy. But also for Kel in how she embraced every aspect of her own life and included all of us, her friends, in it. Kelly was a fun-loving, intelligent, friendly, giving, lovely, beautiful person who knew her Savior and His ultimate love and authority in her life. I will continue to seek to fill the hole in my heart left behind by her passing by embracing other friends and family who knew her and her parents Tommy and Cindy as well, and enjoy those folks fully here on this side until we also crossover into the heavenlies to see our Jesus and are all reunited!

This doesn't seem real. We grew up together and I have so many sweet and funny memories of our times together. You taught me how to go under water without holding my nose and how to water ski! Lol! We shared late night snacks and sneaky adventures and you told the best ghost stories. I remember the stories of Bigfoot! We drifted apart as adults due to distance and having to be adults but I always knew you were there. I'm so sorry for all of the loss and pain you endured. If I could only talk to you one more time and hear your contagious laugh. I will truly miss you until I see you again. I love you!

Kelly…beautiful but never recognizing her own beauty. Loving. A sense of humor that “made my cheeks tired” from smiling (as we often said.) Sometimes shy and sometimes bold. Intelligent and inquisitive. Never any need for pretense. Creative. To-the-point. Prayerful, seeking and believing. Deeply wounded by loss, but now completely healed, whole and rejoicing.
Words do fall short to express how dear Kel was to me and always will be. I’ll miss her, the familiarity, the fun and laughter, the debates, the long talks and the heart connection of a lifelong friendship. That is a rare and precious gift. She was a gift.
There were some times here and there that weeks and even months passed when we didn’t see each other or talk. But, what I always found so comforting was the ease with which we would pick up right where we left off. And, I am so looking forward to doing that very same thing again one day. Thank you, JESUS, for being our hope…an anchor for our souls, both sure and steadfast.
I send my love to you and am praying for you, sweet Caroline and Josh, Aunt Audrey and family, Bo and Cathy and family, Walt and Anne and family, Emme Donnelly-Back, and Kelly’s other family members and many friends. My heart is breaking with yours but also joins in the rejoicing that is uniquely our’s through Jesus Christ. I pray you are comforted in knowing that Kelly is home now with no more pain or sorrow. I can only imagine the reunion they’re having!
