Robert W. Clark obituary

June 11, 1941-July 19, 2023

On July 19, 2023, the airwaves were silenced when long time radio broadcaster, Robert (Bob) Winston Clark went to heaven.  Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Mary Lu, his daughter, Mary Lu (Dale), grandson, Barry (Jasmine), great grandson, Brooklyn, sister, Betsy, and brother, Ken.

Bob is a graduate of the Cambridge School of Broadcasting in Boston, Massachusetts, where he met his wife.  He began his radio career 1962 in Laconia, New Hampshire.  Bob also worked for radio stations in Massachusetts, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina before settling in Roanoke.  In 1985, he began his longest stint in radio at WFIR AM .

Bob was a 31 year survivor of colon cancer.  He used his professional platform to spread awareness about the disease and the importance of regular colonoscopies.

The family thanks Brandon Oaks for their excellent care of him since the spring.  In his final days, Good Samaritan Hospice offered caring and professional care for Bob and his family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Simpson Funeral Home Electric Road Chapel.
