Obituary of Carl Franklin Watson
Carl Franklin Watson, devoted husband and beloved father, Poppie, and friend, passed away peacefully Sunday July 16th, 2023 in his home at the age of 90 surrounded by his family.
Born in Roanoke, Virginia, September 9, 1932, Carl was a lifelong resident attending William Fleming High School. As a veteran of the US Army and graduate of Roanoke College in Business Administration, Carl worked for the Social Security Administration for thirty plus years. Carl will be remembered for his fishing stories, sharp card playing skills, and his never wavering support of the football team from Washington D.C. no matter the name.
Roanoke City Social Services acknowledged Carl for his twenty years in the Foster Parent program and his church family will remember him for his ten years of devotion to the van ministry.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Delma Watson; his brother Bill Watson and wife Jane; sister Sue Atkins and husband Thomas; and nephew Gary Watson.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Betty Rice Watson; daughter Robyn Mintkenbaugh McNeece, husband Greg and grandchildren Baylee and Mason; daughter Allison Watson Laster and husband Mike; and nephew Dan Watson and wife Kari.
