Obituary of Gary Douglas Perdue

Gary Douglas Perdue, 75, husband of Deborah Perdue went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 26, 2023. He was the son of the late Harold and Mabel Holdren Perdue. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Perdue; step-daughter, Tammy Journell.

Gary was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he earned a National Defense Service Medal. He enjoyed being a member of the DAV.  He loved his job as a mechanic and also the time he spent driving school buses for Botetourt County. He also worked as an EMT & Cardiac Tech for Blue Ridge and Roanoke City. He served as foster parent for Botetourt County for 15 years.

In addition to his wife of 35 years, he will be missed and remembered by his children, Doug Perdue (Samantha), Anne McCroskey (Eric), Daniel Perdue (Amber), Cody Perdue, Jasmine Perdue (fiancé Anthony Ostler), Noah Laster; step-children, Crystal Lakey (David), David Stultz (Misty); grandchildren, Will, Abigail, Paisley, Piper, Brooklyn; step-grandchildren, Jamie, Devon, Zach, Brandon, Noah, Jordan; sister, Linda Davis (Galen); sisters-in-law, Teresa Shepherd, Barbara Perdue; as well as numerous other loving family members.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Colonial Baptist Church with Pastor Joel Wegner officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the entire 8th floor ICU staff at Carilion Hospital and especially to Taylor Basham for the extraordinary care that was shown to Gary.
