Obituary of Catherine Scott Butler

Catherine Scott Butler, 89, of Roanoke, Virginia passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023.

Catherine (Cappy) was loved and treasured by her husband, Buddy, family, and friends. She was a remarkable lady, with a strong faith in God, and lived her life with honesty and integrity. She was loving, devoted, generous, and humble, with a cheerful and happy heart. She frequently said “laughter is the best medicine!”

Catherine had an amazing work ethic. She worked many fulfilling years with Norfolk Southern Railroad, and the City of Roanoke, Manager’s Office, earlier in her career. The farm she shared with her husband, nieces and nephews was pure joy and happiness for her. She was beloved by all!

Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert P. Butler, two beloved sisters and aunts, and grandmother, Gertie Scott “Mama”. She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Kay Bratton Atkins, Rick Bratton, Robin Giles and wife Christine, Wanda Bratton Shirah, and Valerie Giles Venning and husband Greg, along with several great nieces and nephews; Erin Barger, Ashley Frost, Christopher Frost, Kim Marshall, and two step-grandchildren. She is also survived by her step-daughter, Gwen Butler Lambert and nephew, Michael Butler and wife Elaine.

Services will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home Peters Creek Road Chapel. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service time. Interment will be private. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home. (540)366-0707.
