Obituary of Charlie Robert Campbell
Charlie “Robbie” Robert Campbell, 76, of Fincastle, passed away, Monday, May 1, 2023. Charlie was born in Russell Count, VA to Edward Milton Campbell and Lucille Warner Campbell on June 13, 1946. He we to Lebanon High School in Lebanon, VA, ad enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1963 at the age of 17. Following two tours of duty in Vietnam, he returned to civilian life in 1967. He retired from Dynax America Corporation in 2012 after working many years in quality control.
Charlie is survived by: Doris Switzer Campbell, his wife and faithful companion of 54 years; son, Scott Campbell (Kristy); granddaughter, Taylor Campbell; stepdaughters, Santana Thomas and Bella De Camara; brother-in-law Elwood Switzer (Betty); many beloved nieces and nephews; and his much loved calico cat, Callie. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Imogene “Jeanie” Campbell Fields, brother-in-law James Fields, and his nephew James “Pete” Fields.
Charlie was a devoted fisherman and outdoorsman. He was an avid historian of the American Old West, World War II and Scottish history. He was also passionate about classic Rock and Roll. He enjoyed travelling and after retirement he was able to visit and explore many of the locations in America that had long been on his “bucket list”.
He was a patriot and had no regrets about service to his country despite his %100 disabled veteran status.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Charlie's name to Wounded Warrior Project or Tunnels to Towers.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home. (540)366-0707.
