Obituary of Roy Jaret Kelly
Mr. Roy Jaret Kelly, 78, of the Sandy Ridge section of Cleveland, Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 11th, 2023, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia surrounded by his family.
Born March 3, 1945, on Sandy Ridge, he was the son of the late Rev. Gonan and Fannie Kelly. He was a coal miner, a proud member of the UMWA, and a sawmill operator. He enjoyed working on cars, taking walks in the woods, hunting for ginseng, dry land fishing, wood working, and craftsmanship. He built a log cabin for him and his wife, Meryl, whom he loved dearly, on Sandy Ridge where they lived off the grid for over 20 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Meryl Jean Deel Kelly, and four siblings, Lawrence Kelly, Lewis Kelly, Billy Kelly, and Bethel Blevins. He leaves behind his daughter, Sandy Kelly Large and husband Jack of Roanoke, Virginia; two grandsons, Zach Large and wife Peyton of Vinton, Virginia and Seth Large of New Bern, North Carolina; great-grandson, Lane Large, expected to arrive in July; brother, Nelson Kelly and wife Maxine of Cleveland, Virginia; sister Dolly Kelly Musick and husband Sparker (Bud) of Abingdon, Virginia, and several nieces and nephews.
Per his wishes, there will be no services.
