Obituary of Donna Marie Doss
Donna Marie Doss, 72, of Salem died peacefully on Friday, March 24, 2023 surrounded by family. She fought hard for many years with COPD and she has finally won the battle.
Donna was born February 12, 1951 in Roanoke, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, R.M. Doss, Jr. and Linda Jackson Doss.
Donna was a graduate of William Fleming High School and retired from Tread Corporation as Sourcing Director after nearly 30 years of service. She was an artist, a poet, and a huge fan of UVA athletics. She also loved the beach. Each Spring and Fall, she would spend a month at Wrightsville Beach to be near her son and his family, and she always invited family and friends to join her.
Donna’s greatest passion, however, was her family. She was a dedicated mother, and for the last 12 years, a proud grandmother. Donna could do it all – she worked long hours, coached her son’s little league baseball team, and would return home to bake “heart-stopping” mac and cheese for dinner.
Donna is survived by her son, Todd Walls (Carrie), and granddaughter Morgan Walls of Wilmington, NC. Also surviving are her sister, Sue Porterfield, of Roanoke, VA, her brother Rick Doss (Lisa), of Vinton, VA, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road with Pastor Rob Colwell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Simpson Funeral Home.
