Obituary of Ellen Walk

Ellen H. Walk, 86, of Roanoke passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011. She was born November 24, 1925 in Hazleton, Pennsylvania and lived in Roanoke and Blacksburg for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Donald Walk, parents, David and Helen Herring, and a sister Adelia Dilger. Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Linda Jones, Diane Patterson and Wendy Romm (Richard); grandson, Christopher Jones (Arlinda) and great grandchildren, Samuel and Chelsea Jones. Ellen was a very independent woman. She helped her husband with Lendy's Restaurant in Blacksburg and worked at Richfield as a dietary secretary. For more than twenty years Ellen did taxes for H & R Black and the AARP. Her favorite pastimes were playing bridge and travel. She will be missed, but her many activities from swimming to sewing influenced all of us in some way. A special thank you to the staff of Gentle Shepherd Hospice and caregivers Tracey Ferguson and Jackie Maas. A memorial service will be held at Windsor Hills United Methodist Church with the Rev. Branan Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
