Obituary of Judy Miller Brown

Judy Ann Miller Brown, 80, of Roanoke passed away peacefully at her home in Roanoke County on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 after a brief illness, and just 20 days after her 80th birthday. She was preceded in death by her father, Clayton A. Miller; mother Pauline D. Miller; as well as two sisters, Peggy Ames and Betty Weatherly.

Judy was born in Willowton, West Virginia in 1943; she graduated second in her class from Oakvale High School in 1960 before relocating to the Roanoke Valley with her husband in 1962.  She worked for Allstate Insurance, the Roanoke City Public Schools as a cafeteria worker at Breckinridge Middle School and retired after several years working for First Union Bank.  She was a loyal and faithful member of New Grace Baptist Church in Roanoke. There she served as a choir member, a longtime nursery worker, and spent over 20 years working with the church's AWANA club.

Surviving is her husband of 61 years, Ed Brown; son, Mark and wife Cindy of Alcoa, Tenn.; daughter, Amy Gilbert and husband Rob of Botetourt County.  She is also survived by what she described as her two precious grandsons, Hunter Gilbert and Tanner Gilbert of Botetourt County; and her brother, Clayton A. "Joe" Miller, Jr. and his wife Kathy of High Point, NC; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that donations be made in Judy’s honor to a charity of the donor's choice. 

The family wishes to thank the kind people of Good Samaritan Hospice and caregiver Crystal Johnson for helping make Judy’s  last days and passing into heaven peaceful and pain free.

A celebration of Judy's life will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2023 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home.  540-366-0707
