George and I were talking about our dear friend, Carol, tonight. It’s hard to believe that she’s been gone one year this past February 9th. We miss you.

Dick and Carol were our next door neighbors for many years. We not only became close friends, but they became like family to us. When her family would visit, she always made sure that we either visited them at her home or she would bring them over to our home. I had family get togethers at our home and all of my family would come. Dick and Carol was always included and my family also became a part of their family. We had some really good times and memories of those days. Carol and I shared so many things. Just about everyday we would have coffee, smoke our cigarettes (when she smoked) and talk for hours about everything. We even would spring clean and fall clean at the same time. She loved using my clothesline pole to hang some things outside to dry. She loved shopping and if she found a “good deal” she would get me one too. After we both moved, we still kept in touch and she was always wanting to know how each of my family members were doing. She stated many times how she wished they had never moved and we both could have remained next door neighbors. We really became to be like sisters. When Dick passed, it seemed Carol had a hard time struggling with life without him. That never changed, but seemed to get harder for her. When she finally got Billy, her precious fur baby, that seemed to somewhat comfort her. They were inseparable. Then, she lost him. After that, she grieved everyday for both Dick and Billy. Life just was not the same for her. But now, her wish has come true. She is now reunited with both Dick and Billy and I am so happy knowing she is now happy again. She longed for this day to come. Carol loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart and soul. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to each one of them. But I am sure knowing that she is with Dick and Billy again and her happiness now can hopefully help to deal with the loss of Carol. Carol was a true friend and “sister” and will be truly missed. May she R.I.P. God bless.

I met Carol through her husband, Richard. I was his Administrative Assistant for 25 years at Roanoke City Public Schools. Carol was, indeed, one of the sweetest people you would ever want to meet. She was a lady full of love, compassion, and grace.
Rest in peace sweet lady. ❤️

I worked with Carol when she was a CASA volunteer and I was her supervisor. I valued her dedication and abilities so much that I recruited her to help me start a separate non-profit serving families in the court system. It would not have happened without her efforts and support. We developed a friendship that I cherished. Unfortunately we lost touch in recent years, but I have no doubt that she touched all of her friends the way she did me. I’m very sorry she is gone.
