Obituary of Sandra Powell Hillyer

Please share a memory of Sandra to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Sandra Lee Hillyer, 71, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 12, 2023. Born May 30, 1951, in Front Royal, VA., she was the daughter of Everett Woodrow and Gladys Katherine Powell.

Sandra described herself as a country girl, raised on a farm, and was her daddy’s right hand. She graduated high school and served 20 years in the U.S. Navy as a dental technician. After retiring, Sandra returned to Front Royal to care for her daddy, family in tow. Also, where she married one great love of her life John Berry Hillyer, who preceded her in death. Sandra also lived in Bedford, Troutville and Pulaski, VA. She never knew a stranger, lived life how she wanted. Sandra helped many people down on their luck many times. When asked about her fondest moments she replied, “When I had my kids”. Others include time on the farm, traveling, kayaking, and cleaning up community roads and recycling.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law Chad and Jamie, her son in law and daughter Daniel and Tammy, grandsons Zachary, Thomas, Knox, Jaxson, granddaughter Maddox, brother and sister in law Everett and Jennifer Powell, Uncle Giles and Aunt Charlotte Partlow, many cousins, nephews and nieces. We want to thank many people who have been so kind, her aid Kristen, and others who called Sandra a friend; Fred Hall, Mike Quinney, Ladies in the Town of Pulaski, the Ladies of National Bank in Pulaski, and many more. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home Electric Road Chapel. (540) 632-4200.
