Obituary of Louise Johnson Weaver

Please share a memory of Louise to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Roanoke, VA.  Louise Elizabeth Johnson Weaver, 100, was carried on the wings of Angels to her Heavenly home, February 8.

Louise was proceeded in death by her husband Louis A. Weaver of 68 years; her parents Herbert and Harriett Berry Johnson; her devoted in-laws, Susie and Stanley Weaver; her sisters – Gwendolyn Nickerson;  Emily Amos and brother-in-law Ralph Amos.

Born in Rayle, GA, the family moved to Birmingham, AL and then to the Roanoke area due to the Depression.  They settled in Salem, where Louise attended Andrew Lewis and followed a long family tradition of wanting to be a teacher.  She graduated with 2nd honors from Roanoke College and obtained her Masters from UVA and spent well over 30 years with the Roanoke City school system in elementary education. Dedication and devotion to family, friends and neighbors, along with work ethics were hallmarks for her.  Whether it was working on the farm on Bent Mountain with cattle or tending her garden, she made everything look easy and took pride in the results. Her pound cake was absolute perfection.

Left to cherish the memories are her Daughter Linda and Son Philip Weaver (wife Mary).  Grandchildren – Deborah Durrett (husband Rick); Eric Weaver (wife April); and Heather Weaver. Great Grandchildren – Marshall Durrett; Cooper and Mack Weaver.  Cousin – Betty Berry of Rayle, GA.  Nephews – Gary Nickerson (wife Karen); Michael Nickerson (wife Dawn); Gilbert Amos; David Amos (wife Tammy); Robert Amos.  Her close friends from her teaching years that were still getting together for lunches and holidays include Louise Wood, Frances Bowling, Faye Pleasants and Betsy Davies Keebler.

A special thank you to Barbara, Cindy and Ben of Good Samaritan Hospice for their care towards the end.
