Obituary of Thomas Holmgaard

Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Thomas Holmgaard, 66, went home to be with The Lord on January 16, 2023.

He was born April 12, 1956 to Marion and the late Horace (Denny) Holmgaard in

Rockville Centre, NY. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from

1977-1981, moved to Virginia where he met and married the love of his life, Laura

Akers.

Tom was a fun-loving husband, father, son, brother, and uncle who loved God with

his whole heart. He was kind and giving and always there to help anyone in need.

He loved using his talents to help family and friends. He also found joy in

woodworking by crafting items for others to enjoy. Always on the move, he was an

avid exercise enthusiast, and enjoyed running, hiking with his family, and long walks

with his trusted canine companion.

Tom worked with his hands and there was very little he couldn’t fix. He worked in

the electrical and HVAC fields for many years and as a result had the opportunity to

meet many people whom he called dear friends.

He fought a long battle with cancer, but he never allowed it to change his spirit. Tom

thanked God for each additional day he was given and prayed continuously for

others fighting the same battle. He knew that cancer couldn’t take away his

relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Tom won.

Tom loved and cared deeply for his family. He was proud of every single one of them

and made it a priority to stay connected. Preceded in death by his father Denny

Holmgaard and his brother John Holmgaard, Tom is survived by his wife, Laura, sons

Emory and Isaac and daughter Kelsey, his mother Marion Holmgaard, sisters Karen

Holmgaard, Jeannie (Michael) Horn, Lisa (Andrew) Burggraf, and Alison (Matthew)

Jaworowski, as well as cherished nieces and nephews, Gregory Holmgaard, Kirsten

(Chris) Pavlich; Alison (Matt) Flaherty, Robert (Meg) Horn, Michael (Jen) Horn; Sara

and Luke Burggraf; David (Amanda) Jaworowski, Jacob Jaworowski, Andrew Hall

and Melissa Holmgaard. He was also the proud great uncle to Cecilia, Lucille, and

William Pavlich; Teagan Holmgaard; Brendan, Annie and George Horn; Isla and

Frances Flaherty; Emilie, Leila and Tatum Horn; Rome Jaworowski, Seth Hall and

Charlotte Holmgaard.
